BOH A. DICKEY became President and Chief Operating Officer of SAFECO
Corporation on August 7, 1996. Mr. Dickey joined SAFECO Corporation in
1982 as vice president and controller. He became chief financial offer
of the corporation in May 1989. He became executive vice president of
the corporation in January 1992 and was elected to the board of
directors in August 1993. Since May 1989 he has served as chairman of
the board of SAFECO's family of mutual funds. Mr. Dickey is also very
active in the community ' participating in organizations emphasizing
education and young people. He is currently the chair of the boards of
Junior Achievement of Greater Seattle, the pacific Science Center and
the Accounting Career Awareness Program for minority high school
students (an organization he co-founded). He is vice-chair of the board
of the University of Washington Medical Center and of United Way and is
a member of the board of trustees of Seattle University. In connection
with his community service activities, Mr. Dickey was named
'Humanitarian of the Year' in 1994 by the Washington Society of CPA's
and awarded one of nine national gold leadership awards from Junior
Achievement in 1997. He received his B.S. degree from the University of
Montana in 1966 and joined Deloitte Haskins & Sells, where he became a
partner in 1978. He was recently honored as the Deloitte & Touche
distinguished alumnus of the year. Mr. Dickey and his wife, Marilyn, are
both from Montana and currently reside in Woodinville, Washington. Profile
