Alan Main – Lexicon Pharmaceuticals

ALAN J. MAIN has been Senior Vice President of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals since July 2001 following the acquisition of Coelacanth Corporation by Lexicon Genetics. Dr. Main held the position of President and CEO with Coelacanth Corporation, based in East Windsor, New Jersey, from January 1, 2000. Prior to this, Dr. Main held the position of Senior Vice President of US Research for Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, Summit, New Jersey, from 1997 -1999. He has a PhD degree in Organic Chemistry from Liverpool University in England and completed a Post- doctoral Research Fellowship at the Woodward Research Institute in Basel, Switzerland, studying with the Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, Prof. R. B. Woodward. He then moved to the Pharmaceutical Division of Ciba- Geigy in Summit, New Jersey, where he held positions of increasing responsibility in the Medicinal Chemistry and Arthritis areas. In 1992, he was appointed Senior Vice President for Research and Preclinical Development for Ciba Pharmaceuticals, a position he held until the merger with Sandoz Pharmaceuticals in 1997. Dr. Main is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and has served as a Board member of a number of research-based organizations including: the New Jersey Research and Development Council, the Biotechnology Council of New Jersey, the Inflammation Research Association and Myriad Genetics Inc.
