DR. A. DERRILL CROWE is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive
Officer of ProAssurance Corporation. In 1976, Dr. Crowe was intimately
involved in the company's founding as a single state mutual insurance
company, and has been the driving force as the company went public in
1991 and began expanding through growth and acquisition. He received his
undergraduate degree from Howard College (now known as Samford
University) in Birmingham; his undergraduate medical education was at
the University of Alabama Medical College; he completed his internship
and a surgical residency at Lloyd Noland Hospital in Birmingham, and a
residency in urology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Dr.
Crowe practiced urology in Birmingham for more than 25 years, and still
maintains memberships in a number of medical societies and professional
organizations related to that field. Dr. Crowe is a 1990 graduate of the
prestigious Owner/President Management Program in Harvard University's
Business School. He is active on the COO Committee of the Physician
Insurers Association of America and serves that organization in a number
