William James Flynn

WILLIAM JAMES FLYNN was elected President and Chief Executive Officer of
GeoLogistics Corporation, one of the world’s largest providers of
freight management and integrated logistics. Prior to joining
GeoLogistics, Mr. Flynn had served since 2000 as Senior Vice President,
Merchandise Service, in the railroad unit of CSX Transportation. Prior
to CSX, Mr. Flynn held various positions in a 23-year career with Sea-
Land Service, Inc. In this capacity, Mr. Flynn served from 1997 to 1999
as Chairman of several Sea-Land subsidiaries or joint ventures: Sea-Land
Orient Terminals, Hong Kong, Asia Terminals Limited, Hong Kong and Hong
Orient Trucking, Hong Kong. In 1997, Mr. Flynn had been appointed Vice
President and General Manager of the company’s business activities in
the People’s Republic of China (PRC). He relocated to Hong Kong from
Tokyo at that time. While in Hong Kong, Mr. Flynn served on the Boards
of two of the company’s joint ventures in the Peoples Republic of China
from 1997 to 1999: Shang Hai Jifa Logistics Company and CSX Orient
Tianjin Container Terminal Company, Ltd. He also served on the Hong Kong
Port Development Board and was an unofficial advisor to the US
Department of Transportation, Maritime Administration team that
conducted discussions with the Ministry of Communications of the PRC on
a bi-lateral maritime agreement. In 1996, Mr. Flynn had been named Vice
President and General Manager for Japan, Korea and the Russian Far East
operations of Sea-Land. He was based in Tokyo, Japan. In addition to
managing the company’s business in the region, he served as: Chairman of
the Japan Foreign Steamship Association 1996-1997 and Board Member
Vostochny International Container Terminal. Mr. Flynn also served as a
private sector industry advisor to the US Department of Transportation,
Maritime Administration team. In 1991, Mr. Flynn became Vice President
of Global Accounts for Sea-Land Service and managed Sea-Land’s
relationships with its largest customers in the United States, Asia and
Europe. In 1990, Mr. Flynn became Vice President of Marketing for the
company’s Latin American operations and oversaw the development of new
business operations in Brazil, Argentina and the West Coast of South
America. In 1987, Mr. Flynn was named General Manager of Sea-Land’s
Puerto Rico operation, its major hub and business center in Latin
America. In 1983, Mr. Flynn was appointed General Manager of the
company’s Central America operations and relocated to Guatemala to
direct business operations in the region. Mr. Flynn held several sales
and marketing positions of increasing responsibility from 1977 to 1983
with the Latin America Division of Sea-Land Service, and International
Ocean transportation and logistics enterprise. He was primarily
responsible for business development in the Caribbean and in Central
America during this time frame. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Latin American Studies from the University of Rhode Island in 1975 and a
Master of Arts degree in Latin American Studies from the University of
Arizona in 1976.
