William Acker

WILLIAM ACKER is a founder, President and CEO of MTI MicroFuel Cells
Inc., a leader in the design development and commercialization of direct
methanol micro fuel cells. Dr. Acker’s prominence in the fuel cell
industry has enabled him to recruit a world class team of scientists,
engineers, marketing and other professionals to develop and
commercialize micro fuel cells. Under Dr. Acker’s leadership, MTI Micro
has attracted best-in-class partners, secured funding, created an
extensive intellectual property portfolio around its proprietary
technology, and made significant progress toward its goal of a
commercially viable and sustainable micro fuel cell industry. Before
joining MTI Micro, Dr. Acker was Vice President of Technology and
Product Development at Plug Power, Inc. Leading the development of the
world’s first residential PEM fuel cell system, he was instrumental in
building Plug from a small R&D lab to the product development and
manufacturing company it is today. Dr. Acker has also held high-level
managerial and scientific positions at Texaco Fuel and Lubricants
Technology, where he developed new fuels, testing techniques and
emission-improving fuel additives. Dr. Acker received a PhD, an MS and
an M. Phil in Applied Physics and Engineering, all from Yale University,
where he was awarded a fellowship from IBM, and a BS in Physics from
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has published more than 50
technical articles and authored eight patents.
