THOMAS K. LEWIS, JR. is Co-Chief Executive Officer of Ameritrade Holding
Corporation. He joined the company in March 1999. Prior to joining
Ameritrade, Mr. Lewis served as President of TenFold Insurance Systems
Group, where he was responsible for all business operations, including
marketing, sales, consulting, applications development, business
development and administration. In 1993, Mr. Lewis began a successful
five-year crusade to transform USF&G, a near bankrupt company, into one
of the nation’s most technologically advanced insurance companies. Under
his leadership, USF&G became the nation’s first insurance company to
underwrite a commercial insurance policy on the Internet. A co-founder
of Seer Technologies, he built a global technology consulting practice
and managed the company’s rapid expansion in Europe, the Middle East and
Africa. Mr. Lewis worked with Louis Gerstner, who is now Chairman of
IBM, to define a new technology plan for American Express. Prior to that
role, he spearheaded a three-year effort to rebuild all of the
securities trading and settlement systems for Credit Suisse First Boston
during their largest period of growth in the mid-1980s. Mr. Lewis, who
at one time was head of technology for the Executive Office of the
President of the United States, was recognized with the highest award
given for such service, The Distinguished Service Award of the Officer
of Administration. Earlier in his career, he managed all systems
development of Marriott Hotels. Mr. Lewis has a BS in Business
Administration and a MS in Computer Science from the University of New
Haven in Connecticut, where he has since been recognized as one of the
school’s Distinguished Alumni. Mr. Lewis is a technology advisor for the
National Federation of the Blind and is a frequent speaker at both
technology and business conferences, as well as guest lecturer at
several universities.
