Scott Mercy

SCOTT MERCY is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of LifePoint
Hospitals. The initial group of LifePoint Hospitals was formed as a spin
off of the nation’s leading investor-owned hospital company,
Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corporation. LifePoint is now an independent
publicly traded company with annual net revenue of approximately $500
million. With 15 years of experience in health care, Mr. Mercy’s primary
responsibilities include operating LifePoint’s group of primarily rural
hospitals. Immediately prior to joining Columbia/HCA in September 1998,
Mr. Mercy served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Nashville-
based America Service Group Inc., a $120 million provider of health care
services for correctional facilities. Before joining America Service
Group in 1996, Mr. Mercy was Senior Vice President of Financial
Operations for Columbia/HCA. In that role, he was responsible for the
financial oversight of 100 geographically diverse hospitals and related
health care operations, generating approximately $6 billion in annual
revenue. He was directly responsible for a 400-person corporate staff
providing operations support in clinical operations, coding, financial
operations, business office and central collections, capital management,
risk and utilization management, plant management and biomedical
services. Mr. Mercy was a long-time member of the Hospital Corporation
of America’s (HCA) management team prior to its merger with Columbia,
having joined HCA in 1983 in the Investor Relations department. He
received his bachelor’s in accounting in 1983 from the University of
Denver in Denver, Colorado. Mr. Mercy is Chairman of the Board of
Tennessee Special Olympics. His hobbies include running, skiing, and
motorcycling. He and his wife, Joy, live in Nashville with their three
children.
