Roberto R. Herencia

ROBERTO R. HERENCIA is the President of Banco Popular North America, the
US banking subsidiary of Popular, Inc., with executive offices based out
of Rosemont, Illinois. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations
of BPNA’s 100-branch network in six states and all of its lending and
leasing activities. Mr. Herencia also supervises the operations of
Popular Cash Express, a financial services superstore providing basic
financial services to low- and moderate-income consumers with more than
100 locations in six states. From 1991 through 1996, Mr. Herencia was
the US Senior Credit Officer and Head of the US Credit Products Division
of Banco Popular de Puerto Rico. Mr. Herencia is an Executive Vice
President of Popular, Inc., and its main subsidiary, Banco Popular de
Puerto Rico. He is a member of the corporation’s Senior Management
Council, responsible for the management of the corporation’s banking
operations and merger and acquisition activity in the US mainland. Prior
to joining Banco Popular in 1991, Mr. Herencia spent 10 years with The
First National Bank of Chicago (currently Bank One). He joined First
Chicago in 1981 as part of its Credit Training Program, spending four
years in Mexico as a Corporate Banking Associate and Assistant Manager.
From 1986 to 1988, he was an Assistant Vice President and Deputy Senior
Credit Officer for Latin America. In 1989, he became Vice President and
the Team Leader responsible for the restructure of problem assets in
Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela and the Philippines. In 1990, as Vice
President and Head of the Emerging Markets Division, he was in charge of
First Chicago’s operations in Latin America. Mr. Herencia is a member of
the Board of Directors of Banco Popular North America, Equity One,
Popular Cash Express, Popular North America and Banco Popular National
Association. He is a Trustee of WTTW, Inc., the Museum of Science and
Industry and Le Moyne College. He is a Director of the Junior
Achievement of Chicago and a member of DePaul University’s College of
Commerce Advisory Council. In addition, Mr. Herencia was recently
appointed Director on the Board of the ServiceMaster Company. In
addition, he is a recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Freedom. Mr.
Herencia graduated magna cum laude and received his Bachelor’s degree in
Finance from Georgetown University. He received his MBA from the Kellogg
School of Management at Northwestern University.
