Richard H. Shuyler

RICHARD H. SHUYLER is currently Executive Vice President and Treasurer,
and a member of the Board of Directors of Atlas Air, Inc. Atlas Air,
based in Golden, Colorado, has in six years become the world’s third
largest cargo airline, as well as the most profitable airline in the
world, operating on a contract basis with major international airlines
such as British Airways, Malaysian Airlines, and China Air. Mr. Shuyler
joined Atlas Air in 1994 after 20 years of experience in the passenger
airline industry. He began his airline career with Texas International
Airlines, the corporate predecessor of Continental Airlines, in Houston,
Texas in early 1975. During the next 18 years, he held various
management and executive positions with Continental and its affiliates,
including serving as the Senior Vice President-Finance and Chief
Financial Officer of each of New York Air, Texas Air, Texas Air
Corporation and Continental Airlines. In addition, he held the position
of President of Texas Air Leasing, an aircraft leasing affiliate of
Continental. In early 1993, Mr. Shuyler moved to Trans World Airlines,
Inc. as part of the management team brought to guide TWA out of
bankruptcy. There, he served as its Senior Vice President-Finance and
Chief Financial Officer, until leaving TWA in 1994 to become one of the
three principals responsible for the formation of Atlas Air. Mr. Shuyler
was born in Wichita, Kansas and spent his childhood years through high
school in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1965, he and his family moved to the
Philippines, where his father served as part of the foreign service. He
received his BA degree in Economics while there, from Silliman
University, a US-sponsored institution. Returning to the United States,
he did his postgraduate MBA studies at the University of Houston, along
with working for two years in the finance department of Ford Motor
Corporation, prior to joining Texas International. Mr. Shuyler is
married with one child. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of
Colorado Academy, has been an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, a member
of NIRI (National Investor Relations Institute), RIMS (Risk and
Insurance Management Society) and the Financial Executive Institute. His
other interests include skiing, music, reading and travel.
