Peter L. Cook

PETER L. COOK has been Executive Director of the National Association of
Water Companies (NAWC) since January 1996. NAWC is the trade association
representing the nation’s private and investor-owned drinking water and
wastewater utilities, as well as private service providers, on issues
including federal legislation, environmental and health regulation, tax
policy and state public utility regulation. Its 200 utility members in
41 states provide safe, reliable drinking water to more than 22 million
Americans every day. Prior to coming to NAWC, Mr. Cook was the Deputy
Director of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Ground
Water and Drinking Water, a post he had held since 1988. Before this,
Mr. Cook served in many capacities at EPA including the Hazardous and
Solid Waste Programs, Federal Facility Compliance Program, and
Environmental Impact Statement Program. From 1979 to 1985 he was away
from EPA, serving as the Deputy Federal Inspector for the Office of
Federal Inspector, an independent federal agency established to oversee
the construction of the Alaska Natural Gas Transportation System (a $30
billion gas pipeline to transport North Slope gas to the Lower 48). Mr.
Cook received a BS in electrical engineering from Clarkson College of
Technology in 1966 and an MBA from American University in 1971.
