Paula Singer

PAULA SINGER is President and Chief Executive Officer of Sylvan
Online Higher Education. She brings over 20 years of experience
in the education industry. Currently, Ms. Singer is also Chairman
of the National School Boards Foundation, and a trustee of
Goucher College, Walden E. Learning, Inc., and Cognitive
Concepts. She also sits on the Advisory Board for both the
University of Southern California and Johns Hopkins School of
Education. Prior to assuming responsibility as a Divisional
President of SES in 1996, Ms. Singer was Vice President of Sylvan
Operations, where she was a key leader in the development of the
company’s school contracts business. In this role, she was also
instrumental in establishing Sylvan’s corporate-owned and
operated retail learning center and domestic testing sites.
Before joining Sylvan Learning Systems, Inc., in 1993, Ms. Singer
held several senior positions at American Learning Corporation, a
subsidiary of Encyclopedia Britannica. These positions included
Vice President of Marketing, Executive Vice President of
Operations and General Manager. Ms. Singer began her professional
career as a teacher, where her focus was improving the academic
performance of struggling students from seriously disadvantaged
urban and rural communities. Ms. Singer received a BS in
Education from the University of Connecticut, where she was the
first education major in the history of the university to be
selected to its prestigious University Scholar program. Ms.
Singer also holds an advanced certificate as a Montessori teacher
from the American Montessori Association.
