Louis F. Centofanti

LOUIS F. CENTOFANTI is CEO of Perma-Fix Environmental Services, Inc. He
has received numerous commendations including a special award from the
U.S. Department of Energy in 1990, the Governor of Florida’s Energy
Award in 1981 and an award from the Governor of Mississippi in 1979. In
1980, Dr. Centofanti was appointed an honorary member of the Alabama
Energy Board. Because of his work with the PPM process and PPM Inc., the
Advanced Technology Development Institute of Atlanta selected Dr.
Centofanti as Georgia’s 1985 Entrepreneur of the Year. Dr. Centofanti’s
career history is as varied as it is impressive. As Chairman of PESI, he
is guiding the company through a dramatic growth phase in which the
company has become a leader in the environmental industry. Prior to
founding PESI in 1991, he served as a Senior Vice President for USPCI,
the company that purchased PPM, Inc., the company he started in 1981.
Prior to that, Dr. Centofanti served the U.S. Department of Energy as
the Southeast Regional Representative of the Secretary under the Carter
Administration. In the 1970s he worked for Monsanto Chemical Company as
a Senior Research Chemist and Environmental Affairs Specialist and
taught Chemistry at Emory University. Dr. Centofanti holds a BS degree
in Chemistry from Youngstown State University, an MS degree and a PhD,
both in Chemistry, from the University of Michigan; and he did his post-
doctoral fellowship at the University of Utah.
