Kenneth W. Lowe

KENNETH W. LOWE was named President and COO and a director of The E.W.
Scripps Company in January 2000. In September 2000, he assumed the role
of CEO. Prior to joining the corporate office in Cincinnati, Mr. Lowe
was Chairman and CEO of Knoxville-based Scripps Networks. He spent the
past five years building the company’s category television division into
one of the nation’s fastest growing and most successful creators of
unique brands for television and the Internet. He founded and launched
Home & Garden Television (HGTV) in 1994; managed Food Network, in which
the company owns a majority interest; and oversaw the launch of the
company’s third network, Do It Yourself (DIY), in September 1999. Mr.
Lowe began his career in radio with Southern Broadcasting in 1969 and
continued with various management positions in radio and television with
Harte-Hanks Broadcasting in the late 1970s. He is currently a member of
the National Cable Television Association’s (NCTA) Board of Governors
regulatory board and copyright policy committee. He also serves on the
Board of Directors for HGTV/Canada, the Board of Advisors to the
Department of Communications at the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill and the Knoxville Chancellor’s Committee at the University
of Tennessee. Mr. Lowe received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio,
Television and Motion Pictures from the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill.
