John Brown, aged 58, joined Allen in 1973 as Finance Director and Company Secretary. In 1977, he started the Speedy business with one depot in Wigan and has masterminded its expansion since then. He was appointed Managing Director of the Hire Services Division in 1996 and became Chief Executive in February 2001.
