JAMES M. FLEETWOOD, JR. is Chairman, President and Chief Executive
Officer of LifePoint Hospitals, Inc. Mr. Fleetwood began his career in
health care in 1971 as a Medical Administrator in the United States Air
Force, based at McCoy Air Force Base in Florida. After leaving the Air
Force in 1975, he became Business Office Manager at Craven County
Hospital in New Bern, North Carolina. From 1977 to 1980, Mr. Fleetwood
worked at Coral Gables (FL) Hospital as a Business Officer Manager and
later as an Assistant Administrator. His first administrator position
came in late 1980 when he joined Larkin General Hospital in Miami. He
spent seven years at Larkin before becoming President and CEO of Coral
Reef Hospital, also in Miami. In July 1989, Mr. Fleetwood became
Administrator and Chief Executive Officer of Plantation (FL) General
Hospital, a facility owned and operated by HealthTrust, Inc. He was
elevated to Regional Vice President in 1992, where he was responsible
for the Gulf Coast Region of Florida and Alabama. In 1995, he joined HCA
as President of its North Florida Division. He was named President of
the company’s Florida Group in March 1996. Mr. Fleetwood received his
Bachelor’s degree from Campbell University in North Carolina in 1970.
