JAMES E. HERRING was named President and CEO of Friona
Industries, LP, in May 1989. Mr. Herring was formerly President
and Chairman of the Board of LFS Capital Corp., the third largest
stocker cattle operation in the United States during the late
1980s. From 1979 to 1984 he was President and Chairman of the
Board of Marcom International, Inc., a Dallas, Texas-based
conglomerate which included a commodity brokerage company, an
agricultural finance company and subsidiaries with various
interests in oil and gas, cattle and real estate. Mr. Herring is
a founding shareholder of First National Bank of Park Cities in
Dallas, Texas, and served as a Director from 1985 until 1991. Mr.
Herring is Past President of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association
and has served several terms on the Executive Committee and as a
Director since 1990. He has also served as a Director and member
of the Executive Committee of the National Cattleman’s Beef
Association. Mr. Herring is past Chairman of the Cal Farley’s
Boys Ranch Foundation Board of Trustees, and serves as a Director
and ex-officio member of the Executive Committee of Cal Farley’s
Boys Ranch, Inc. He is a former Director and Executive Committee
member of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and past Chairman of
the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce Ag Development Council. He is a
member of the Texas A&M College of Agriculture Development
Council and serves on the West Texas A&M Ag Advisory Board. He
also serves on the Rabobank North American Agribusiness Advisory
Board, and the College of Business Administration Advisory
Council for the University of Texas. Mr. Herring was awarded the
Ladd Hitch Award for innovation and leadership by Beef Today
magazine for the year 2000, and was presented the Vision Award
for that year by the National Cattleman’s Beef Association
Foundation. Mr. Herring holds a Bachelor of Business
Administration degree from the University of Texas at Austin and
an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business
Administration.
