James A. Taylor

JAMES A. TAYLOR is Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Director
of The Banc Corporation. Mr. Taylor serves on the Boards of
Directors of the Alabama Sports Medicine Institute, Security
Engineers, Inc., Southern Energy Homes, Inc., The Public
Educational Building Authority of the City of Birmingham. He is a
trustee of the SAL Preferred Fund Trust I and a member of the
Dean’s Executive Advisory Board for the School of Business for
Samford University. After graduation from college with a double
major in Chemistry and Physical Education, he began his coaching
career at Fayette County High School. Mr. Taylor earned his
Master’s degree from the University of Alabama in 1967. In 1975,
he entered private business as the Western Regional Sales Manager
of DISCO Aluminum Products, Inc., in Selma, Alabama. By 1978, he
was serving as President of the company. In 1981, Mr. Taylor
purchased a small community bank with $17 million in assets. He
subsequently added five more banks and eventually formed Alabama
National BanCorporation. He served as Chairman of the Board and
CEO of Alabama National BanCorporation, and as Chairman of the
Board of each of the subsidiary banks. During Mr. Taylor’s years
as Chairman of Alabama National the organization was continually
one of the most profitable in the State of Alabama and the
subsidiary banks earned in excess of 150% of the national
average. In 1995, he successfully guided Alabama National through
a public offering of the company’s stock and, in 1996, a merger
with the parent company of National Bank of Commerce of
Birmingham, forming a banking organization with approximately $1
billion in assets.
