Douglas R. Starrett

Douglas R. Starrett began his training with the company by working
during school vacations. In 1941 he started the toomakers’ apprentice
course, leaving for three years of service in the Air Corps during World
War II. As an aircraft commander, he piloted a B-17 Flying Fortress with
the 8th Air Force in the European Theater, winning the air medal with
five oak leaf clusters. After the war, he returned and served as an
Experimental Toolmaker, Methods Engineer, Assistant Vice President, Vice
President in Charge of Plant Operations and Executive Vice President. In
1958 he was responsible for setting up the Scottish branch of the
company in Jedburgh and the Brazilian branch in Sao Paolo. He became
Chairman and CEO of the company in 1994.
