Donald E. Steen

DONALD E. STEEN left Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corporation in December
1997 where he served as President of the International Group to form a
surgically oriented healthcare company, United Surgical Partners
International, Inc. He currently serves as Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer of USPI. USPI owns and operates surgical centers in the United
States and acute care hospitals in Spain and London. Before it merged
with Columbia/HCA in 1994, Mr. Steen was President and Chief Executive
Officer of Medical Care America, the holding company of Medical Care
International, Inc. and Critical Care America, Inc. Prior to the
formation of Medical Care America, Mr. Steen was Chairman, President and
Chief Executive Officer of Medical Care International, Inc., the largest
owner and operator of freestanding ambulatory surgery centers in the
United States. Mr. Steen was a Founder of Medical Care International,
which began operations in September 1981. His prior experience was with
a large hospital management company where he was Corporate Controller
before assuming responsibility for hospitals owned in the Southwest. Mr.
Steen serves on the Board of Directors of several other healthcare
companies. Mr. Steen attended undergraduate school at the University of
Missouri-Columbia and graduate school at St. Louis University. Mr. Steen
became a Certified Public Accountant while working for a national CPA
firm.
