David W. Spainhour

DAVID W. SPAINHOUR is Chairman of the Board of Pacific Capital Bancorp
and Santa Barbara Bank & Trust. Pacific Capital Bancorp is the holding
company for three independent banks serving the Central Coast: Santa
Barbara Bank & Trust, Los Robles Bank, First National Bank of Central
California and its affiliates South Valley National Bank and San Benito
Bank, a community bank network with 43 branches in six counties. Mr.
Spainhour is a banking veteran with more than 30 years’ commitment to
the Central Coast financial services community. He joined Santa Barbara
Bank & Trust in 1966 as Controller, and was named Vice President &
Cashier three years later. He was named Senior Vice President in 1973,
was elected to the bank’s Board of Directors in 1974, and was named
Executive Vice President in 1980. Mr. Spainhour was elected President of
the bank in 1989, was elected Chairman of the Board in 1996, and named
Chairman of the holding company in April 2000. Prior to joining Santa
Barbara Bank & Trust, he spent 12 years with the former Security Pacific
National Bank in Los Angeles. Mr. Spainhour attended Glendale College,
UCLA, the National School of Bank Investments, and the University of
Southern California’s Managerial Policy Institute. In 1970, he graduated
from the Pacific Coast Banking School, University of Washington, where
he was named to the school’s prestigious Hall of Fame in 1998 for his
personal achievements and contributions to the financial services
community.
