Charles E. Hoffman

CHARLES E. HOFFMAN brought over 17 years of experience in the
telecommunications industry when he joined Rogers AT&T Wireless in
January 1998 as President and Chief Executive Officer. Rogers AT&T is
Canada’s largest and only nationwide wireless phone and paging provider,
with over 2.6 million subscribers. Mr. Hoffman began his career with
IBM, where he worked as a marketing representative, in 1976. In October
1980, he joined Southwestern Bell Corporation (SBC) as an Account
Executive and National Account Manager. From 1984 to 1990, Mr. Hoffman
held a variety of progressive positions with Southwestern Bell Mobile
Systems (SBMS), including Regional Manager, General Manager, and Vice
President and General Manager, where he was responsible for starting up
the wireless business in St. Louis and overseeing operations in all
markets outside of Texas. In January 1990, Mr. Hoffman was appointed
President and General Manager, Cellular One, for the Boston, Worcester,
Cape Cod region. In this capacity, Mr. Hoffman headed the wireless
operations in the sixth largest market in the United States. In August
1994, Mr. Hoffman was appointed Managing Director, Wireless, SBC
International, a position he held until June 1996. During that period,
Mr. Hoffman was also Director General, Radiomovil DIPSA, S.A. de C.V.
(Telcel). In this capacity, he headed the wireless operations in Mexico,
building networks and running the operations nationwide with over 1,500
employees. In this two-year period, Mr. Hoffman expanded the customer
base to 700,000 and increased market share from 49% to 65%. In June
1996, Mr. Hoffman was appointed President, Northeast Region, Sprint PCS.
He was responsible for profitable operations in this start-up company
owned by Sprint, TCI, Comcast, and Cox Communications in the largest
region in the United States. With regional offices in New York City,
Philadelphia, Boston, Pittsburgh, Hartford, and Albany, he launched PCS
service in nine markets. Mr. Hoffman holds an MBA degree from the
University of Missouri, St. Louis. Mr. Hoffman is based at the Rogers
AT&T Wireless headquarters in Toronto.
