BRIAN J. KNEZ is President, Co-COO and member of the Board of Directors
of Harcourt General, Inc. and President & CEO of Harcourt Brace & Co.
He joined the Company in May 1989 and attained his present position in
January 1997. Mr. Knez has held many positions within Company including
Vice President- November 1991-1996 and Group Vice President- January
1996. He became a member of the Board of Directors in May 1995. Prior to
joining the Company, Mr. Knez held several positions including Assistant
to the President: General Cinema Corporation - May 1989-1991; Assistant
to the President: General Cinema Beverages, Inc.- May 1987-1989; Choate
Hall & Stewart, Boston, MA- August 1984-1987. Memberships: Board of Bar
Overseers, Boston, MA- 1985-present; Board of Directors, Program
Committee, Finance Committee: Boys Girls Clubs of Boston- 1990-present;
Board of Directors, Chairman-Nominating Committee: STM, International
Association of Scientific, Technical & Medical Publishers- 1991-present;
Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Secretary: Association of
American Publishers, New York. Mr. Knez received his Bachelor of
Science, with Highest Distinction- Phi Beta Kappa, from University of
Arizona in 1979. He then went on to receive his J.D.- cum laude, from
Boston College Law School. He is married and has two children. Profile
