Christy Shaffer – Inspire Pharmaceuticals Inc (isph)

CHRISTY SHAFFER, PhD joined Inspire Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in June 1995 as the first full-time employee. She was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in December 1998. She served as Chief Operating Officer from December 1997 to December 1998. In addition, in her previous position as Vice President of Development, she supervised all clinical, regulatory, pharmaceutical development, nonclinical development and project management activities. Dr. Shaffer's experience includes international as well as US drug development programs. She joined Inspire from the clinical research division of Burroughs Wellcome Co., where she served in a variety of positions where she coordinated several IND submissions and one NDA submission. She received a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Tennessee and completed two years of Postdoctoral training in Cardiovascular Research in the Biochemistry Department at the Chicago Medical School prior to her Postdoctoral appointment at UNC.
