DR KARSTEN HENCO, PhD, Chief Executive Officer, is a co-Founder of and
Investor in EVOTEC BioSystems AG. Dr. Henco studied biochemistry at the
University of Hannover, Hannover Medical School and Technische
Hochschule Darmstadt. After receiving his PhD in 1979, he was a post-
doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Prof Charles Weissmann at the
University of Zurich where he cloned and characterised interferons and
other important lymphokines. After three years at BASF AG in
Ludwigshafen, where he was involved in the establishment of BASF's
molecular biology and recombinant DNA technology facilities, Dr Henco
co-founded QIAGEN GmbH and its subsidiary, QIAGEN, Inc in 1985. He
served as Managing Partner of QIAGEN until 1993. Together with Dr Ulrich
Aldag, QIAGEN's former CFO, Professors Manfred Eigen, Rudolf Rigler,
Freimut Leidenberger and Heinrich Schulte, the Max-Planck Society and
further scientists, Dr Henco founded EVOTEC BioSystems GmbH in December
1993. He has been Managing Director/CEO of the Company from its
inception. EVOTEC have been listed on the Neuer Markt of the Frankfurt
Stock Exchange since 10 November 1999. In 1997 Dr Henco received the
Diesel award for his scientific and entrepreneurial work. Profile
