Scott E. Reed

SCOTT E. REED is Senior Executive Vice President and Chief
Financial officer of BB&T Corporation. Mr. Reed joined BB&T in
1972. He became Chief Financial Officer in 1981 and attained his
current title in 1989. During his career at BB&T he has served as
a business loan officer, branch manager, credit analysis
director, manager of the Research and Statistics Department, and
manager of the Finance and Control Division. As Chief Financial
Officer he oversees the Financial Group which includes the
Financial Management Division and the Legal Department. A Chicago
native, reared in Greensboro, North Carolina, Mr. Reed obtained
his undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Wake Forest
University and his Master’s in Business Administration at the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also is a
graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking, Rutgers
University. Mr. Reed is very active in both local and state
community affairs. Some of his current commitments include
serving as Chairman of the Corporate Committee for The Campaign
for Wake Forest University: Honoring the Promise, Chairman of the
North Carolina Zoological Council, Trustee of the Nature
Conservancy of North Carolina and as a member of the Board of
Directors of Associates in Christian Counseling and Young Life of
Forsyth County. He has served in leadership positions on many
Boards of Directors including immediate past Chair of the North
Carolina Zoological Society, immediate past Chair of NCFREE
(North Carolina Foundation for Research and Economic Education).
Mr. Reed has been honored by several civic groups for his active
participation and leadership and received the Distinguished
Alumni Award from UNC. He is also a retired Captain of the U. S.
Army Reserves.
