PAUL W. JONES is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of United States
Can Company. Since 1989, and before joining U.S. Can, he was President
and Chief Executive Officer of Greenfield Industries, Inc. in Augusta,
Georgia. At Greenfield, he built and re-engineered the company through
acquisitions and internal growth, taking it public in 1993. Greenfield
is a major tool manufacturer and was acquired by Kennametal Inc. in
November of 1997. Prior to Greenfield Industries, in a 19-year career,
Mr. Jones held several key positions with General Electric Company,
including General Manager, Manufacturing at GE Transportation, where he
led the global manufacturing for the leading manufacturer of
locomotives, propulsion systems for transit cars, industrial D.C. motors
and off-highway propulsion systems. He also had full P&L responsibility
for two foreign operations in Brazil and Canada. Mr. Jones, a U.S. Can
Board member, also serves on the Board of Omni-Quip, a $450-million
public company in Port Washington, Wisconsin, as well as the Board of a
private stamping company, Orchid International in Nashville, Tennessee.
Paul was born and raised in Harrisburg, Illinois and is a graduate of
the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana with a B.S. degree
in Engineering. He and his wife have two daughters and reside in Burr
Ridge, Illinois.
