NORBERTO GONZALEZ is Executive Vice President of Finance and Risk
Management and Acting Chief Financial Officer of Oriental Financial
Group Inc. Mr. Gonzlez graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1980 from the
University of Puerto Rico, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in
Business Administration with a major in Accounting. He started his
career at KPMG Peat Marwick in San Juan, where he worked for 12 years,
becoming a Senior Manager specializing in audit and consulting services
to financial institutions. He became a Certified Public Accountant in
1982 and a Certified Internal Auditor in 1987. In 1992, he joined
PonceBank, a publicly traded financial institution, where he was the
Senior Vice President in charge of Credit Administration, which included
supervising credit operations, special loans, asset review, collections,
claims, litigations and bankruptcies. In 1998, PonceBank was acquired by
Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), the second largest bank in Spain
and a publicly traded company, and Mr. Gonzlez was named Executive Vice
President and Risk Management Director of BBVA Puerto Rico with
responsibilities that included credit analysis and approval, credit
administration and review, workouts, collections and operational risk.
To complement his financial background, while at BBVA, Mr. Gonzlez
earned his Juris Doctor degree in 2001 from the University of Puerto
Rico Law School. In 2003, he joined Oriental Financial Group, where he
is responsible for Financial Planning, Analysis and Reporting,
Accounting and Credit Risk. In addition, he is a member of the Group’s
Asset and Liability Management Committee and is the member of the
Executive Committee responsible for compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley
Act. Mr. Gonzlez is a member of the Puerto Rico Society of Certified
Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants.
