MAURICE MARTIN is the Chief Executive Officer of Torotrak Plc. He has
been responsible for Torotrak since its formation by BTG Plc in 1989. In
1995 he was appointed as Torotrak’s first full-time Chief Executive and
has managed the growth and development of Torotrak from a seven man
research and development team to its current complement of nearly 140
including over 70 professional engineers. In 1998 he led the demerger of
Torotrak form BTG and the flotation of the company on the London Stock
Exchange. Mr Martin joined BTG in 1978 following a career at ITT
Corporation and Revertex Chemicals Limited. He held various senior
management positions in BTG culminating in his appointment as Director
of BTG’s then engineering division in 1986. During his career at BTG he
played a significant role in the commercialisation of major technologies
such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (‘MRI’) which became BTG’s largest
revenue generating technology. During the early part of his career at
BTG he was also responsible for the management and divestment of a
portfolio of venture capital investments arising from earlier National
Research Development Corporation and National Enterprise Board
investments. Mr Martin is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of
Management Accountants.
