Kathy Ordoez

KATHY ORDOEZ is President of Celera Genomics and Celera Diagnostics. As
President of Celera Diagnostics, Ms. Ordoez has brought together a
senior management team with extensive experience and demonstrated
results in the molecular diagnostics industry. This group of scientific
and business executives has in turn created an environment where highly
motivated professionals are working to turn scientific discoveries into
medical realities. In December 2000, Ms. Ordoez joined Applera
Corporation and in April 2001 became the founding President of Celera
Diagnostics. In April 2002, she was also appointed President of the
Celera Genomics Group. Over the prior 15 years, Ms. Ordoez held several
senior executive positions with Hoffmann La-Roche, including nine years
as President and Chief Executive Officer of Roche Molecular Systems. In
this capacity, Ms. Ordoez oversaw the development of the polymerase
chain reaction (PCR) technology from a promising research tool to a
routine diagnostic procedure practiced by thousands of clinical
laboratories around the world. Prior to joining Roche, she held
management and scientific positions with Baker Instruments Corp. and
Union Carbide Corp. Ms. Ordoez received her Bachelor’s degree in
Chemistry from Hartwick College, Oneonta, New York, in 1972 and an
Honorary Doctor of Science from Hartwick in 2000. She has also taken
graduate courses in Biochemistry, Finance, Marketing and Business
Administration from Pace University, New York Medical College and the
University of Pennsylvania. She holds five US patents and foreign
counterparts, and has published papers on project involving inorganic
synthesis and diagnostics.
