John Campbell

John Campbell, Ph.D., MBA, is Chief Executive of NMT Group PLC. Dr.
Campbell graduated with B.Sc. (Hons.) and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, before completing postdoctoral training in physiology at McGill University in Montreal. Dr. Campbell’s first industrial experience was with the Dow Chemical Company where the group that he ran successfully developed a series of products aimed at various health care fields. Rising through the ranks quickly, Dr. Campbell became Vice President for R&D for the diagnostics division of Dow and later he played a key role in the divestiture of the division. Subsequently, Dr. Campbell was appointed R&D Director for Boehringer Mannheim Corporation in the USA and was instrumental in initiating the USA R&D efforts for the parent German firm. Following the acquisition of an MBA in marketing and finance and promotion to Director of Business
Development for Boehringer Mannheim he successfully established
strategic alliances for the firm in a variety of health care areas. Dr.
Campbell has also had significant hands on experience in running early-stage high technology firms such as Photovolt Corporation (U.S.), Cellmark (U.S. and U.K.), and Tepnel Life Sciences PLC (U.K.), prior to his appointment to the board of New Medical Technology Limited in April 1996. Dr. Campbell’s broad, international, technical and business experience with both large and small firms in the health care field has helped him to establish a strong base of contacts throughout the healthcare industry.
