Edward M. Rudnic

DR. EDWARD M. RUDNIC is Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer
of Advancis Pharmaceutical Corporation. Dr. Rudnic has over 20 years of
industry experience in the development and commercialization of a wide
range of pharmaceutical products. Prior to founding Advancis, Dr. Rudnic
directed all of the research and development activities in the U.S. for
Shire Pharmaceuticals. Shire acquired Pharmavene in 1997, a startup
company focused on the design and commercialization of drug delivery
systems, where Dr. Rudnic was Senior Vice President for Development and
Technical Operations. He played a major role in the development of
Pharmavene from its infancy, and ultimately in the stock offering on the
London Exchange that resulted in the $104MM merger and $70MM technology
trust. He held positions of increasing responsibility as a Director of
Formulation Development and Head of Pharmaceutical Process Development
at Schering-Plough Corporation. Prior to that and after his doctorate,
Dr. Rudnic was Research Investigator at E.R. Squibb and Sons, developing
oral controlled-release dosage forms and novel drug delivery concepts.
Dr. Rudnic has a BS in Pharmacy, an MS in Pharmaceutics and a doctorate
in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Rhode Island. He holds
adjunct professorships at the University of Rhode Island and the
University of Maryland.
