Charles D. Winston

CHARLES D. WINSTON is President, Chief Executive Officer and a member of
the Board of Directors of GSI Lumonics Inc. He accepted the appointment
to these positions following the merger of General Scanning Inc. and
Lumonics Inc. in March 1999. Prior to the merger, he had been President
and Chief Executive Officer and a Director of General Scanning Inc since
1988. As the company’s most senior executive, Mr. Winston is responsible
for its overall strategic mission and direction. Under his leadership,
GSI Lumonics has established itself as one of the premier laser-based
technology manufacturers in the world, serving the semiconductor,
electronics and telecom fiber optics industries. With specific expertise
in telecommunications and electronics, Mr. Winston was a Senior Vice
President with Federal Express Corporation. During this time, he
established and directed the high technology, telecommunications and
data communications services. His strong managerial background provides
the company with international experience at the highest level in
operations, marketing strategies and technology development.
