ANDR TREMBLAY is President and Chief Executive Officer of Microcell
Telecommunications Inc. Mr. Tremblay has been active in the field of
telecommunications for the past 15 years. He was appointed President and
Chief Executive Officer of Microcell Telecommunications in 1995, heading
up a team whose mission was to take the lead in implementing Personal
Communications Services (PCS) in Canada. In December 1995, under his
leadership, Microcell was awarded a national license to offer PCS. In
November 1996, Microcell launched its revolutionary Fido’ Service in the
Greater Montreal area on its Global System for Mobile communications
(GSM) network, also launching the first Canadian PCS network to operate
at 1.9 GHz. Microcell also plans to deploy a cross-Canada, broadband
fixed wireless access network based on Internet Protocol, through its
Inukshuk Internet Inc. subsidiary. In just a few years, Microcell has
become a major player in the Canadian communications industry, growing
its customer base at record speed, reaching the one million-customer
mark faster than any other wireless operator in Canada. The company had
revenues of nearly C$600 million in 2002, and currently employs over
2,000 people in Canada. In addition to his role at Microcell, Mr.
Tremblay sits on the Board of Directors of the Communications Research
Centre (a research arm of the federal government’s Department of
Industry) as well as the Boards of other private and public
corporations. Mr. Tremblay holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management and
an Accounting degree from Universit Laval (Qubec), a Master’s degree
in Taxation from the Universit de Sherbrooke (Qubec), and is a
graduate of Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.
