Alan Trefler

ALAN TREFLER is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of
Pegasystems Inc. He also serves as Chairman of the company’s
Board of Directors. Mr. Trefler has guided Pegasystems’
technology vision since he founded the company in 1983. He was
granted a US patent in 1998 for the distinctive Inherited Rule
Base Architecture, which provides the framework for the company’s
process automation management solutions. Mr. Trefler has
consulted extensively in the use of advanced technologies,
customer service processing, expert systems and work automation.
He is an active member with a number of industry associations,
including AIIM (The Association for Information and Image
Management), IEEE, TAWPI (The Association for Work Process
Improvement), the Greater Boston Chapter of the Association for
Computing Machinery, ASQ (the American Society of Quality) and
BPMI.org (Business Process Management Initiative). Prior to
founding Pegasystems, Mr. Trefler managed an electronic funds
transfer product for TMI Systems Corporation, a software and
services company. Mr. Trefler has frequently presented to
international audiences and has written for major publications.
He has also been profiled in such publications as The Boston
Globe, Forbes and Inc. Mr. Trefler’s interest in computers and
expert systems originates from collegiate involvement in
tournament chess, during which time he achieved a Master rating
and was co-champion of the 1975 World Open Chess Championship.
Mr. Trefler holds a degree with distinction in Economics and
Computer Science from Dartmouth College.
