Alan J. Noia

ALAN J. NOIA is Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of
Allegheny Energy, Inc., and its principal subsidiaries. On December 6,
2001, Mr. Noia was honored with the Platts Financial Times Global Energy
CEO Of The Year Award. Mr. Noia began work for Allegheny Energy
subsidiary Potomac Edison on a survey crew in 1966 while a student at
the University of Virginia. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Electrical Engineering, Mr. Noia took a full-time position
with Allegheny Energy as an Engineer. Since then, Mr. Noia has held a
wide variety of positions, including Vice President of Bulk Power
Supply, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Operating Officer. He was
named Chief Executive Officer in 1996 and Chairman in 1997. Mr. Noia is
a member of the Board of Directors of the Edison Electric Institute
where he also serves on the Executive Committee, the Policy Committee on
Environmental Affairs (co-Chair), the Environmental Separately Funded
Activity Steering Committee (Co-Chair), the CEO Comprehensive Approach
Task Force (co-Chair), the Policy Committee on Energy Supply, and the
CEO Task Force on Critical Infrastructure Protection; EPRI (Electric
Power Research Institute ‘ Membership & Strategic Issues Committee and
Finance Committee); Southeastern Electric Exchange, Inc. (where he is
immediate past President); Ohio Valley Electric Corporation; Coal-Based
Generation Stakeholders; Community Foundation of Washington County
(Board of Trustees); Maryland Symphony Orchestra (where he is immediate
past President); and The Conservation Fund Corporate Council. He assists
in an advisory capacity with a variety of groups. For seven years, he
served on the Electrical Engineering Industrial Advisory Board at the
University of Virginia. He is also active in several local civic and
community organizations and is a member of several professional
organizations, including the Institute of Electrical & Electronic
Engineers, as well as a member of the Yale Club/Virginia Club of New
York City.
