RICHARD SIM is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of APW Ltd. He also
will be the Chairman of the parent company, Applied Power, to be renamed
Actuant Corp. (NYSE: ATU). He joined APW in 1985 as its Chief Operating
Officer, became Chief Executive Officer in 1986 and Chairman of the
Board in 1988. During his tenure, APW has grown from a $100 million
family-owned business to a $2 billion publicly traded company on the New
York Stock Exchange. In 1968 and 1969 he taught and conducted research
at the University of Liverpool. After immigrating to the US in 1970, he
worked on Fast Breeder Nuclear Reactor projects first with Westinghouse
and then with General Electric. In 1976 and 1977 Mr. Sim was a visiting
professor at the University of California-Berkeley in their Nuclear
Engineering Department. In 1980, Mr. Sim became General Manager of GE's
Protective Equipment Products business and in 1982 was promoted to
General Manager at GE's Medical Systems Group with responsibility for
the ultrasound and nuclear diagnostic equipment businesses. Mr. Sim has
a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Glasgow, Scotland
and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Cambridge University, UK. Profile
