ERNEST A. GERARDI, JR., is president, chief operating officer and a
director of Charles E. Smith Residential Realty, Inc. In this capacity,
Mr. Gerardi has overall responsibility for operations of the company.
Prior to the formation of the company, a publicly held Real Estate
Investment Trust (REIT), Mr. Gerardi served as executive vice president
of Charles E. Smith Management, Inc., the management arm of the Charles
E. Smith Companies, Washington, D.C.'s largest real estate development
and management operation. Before joining the Smith Companies in 1985,
Mr. Gerardi was with Arthur Andersen and Co., where he served as senior
partner in charge of the firm's accounting and financial practice for
over 250 professionals in Washington, D.C. During his 27 years with
Arthur Andersen, he specialized in management consultation and strategic
planning. Mr. Gerardi holds a BS from the University of Maryland and is
a member of the Board of Directors of the National Multi Housing
Council. He also is a member of the American Institute of Certified
Public Accountants, the D.C. Institute of Certified Public Accountants,
and the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts. Profile
