ARNOLD M. NEMIROW is Chairman, President and CEO of Bowater
Incorporated, based in Greenville, South Carolina. Prior to joining
Bowater in September 1994, Mr. Nemirow served as President and Chief
Executive Officer of Wausau Paper Mills Company in Wisconsin from July
1990 to August 1994. From 1988 to 1990, Mr. Nemirow was Chairman,
President and CEO of Nekoosa Papers, Inc., the business papers division
of Great Northern Nekoosa Corporation (GNN). Previously, he held legal
and management positions with GNN, including President of Great Southern
Paper Company, as well as Corporate Vice President and Director of
Industrial Relations. He began his professional career with a Wall
Street law firm prior to joining GNN in 1974. Mr. Nemirow is a member of
the Board of Directors of Alliant Energy Corporation, the successor
company to three Midwest utility companies. Mr. Nemirow was named
Papermaker of the Year in 1994 and 1996 by PaperAge magazine and
Executive of the Year in 1995 by the Paper Industry Management
Association (PIMA). In 1996, he received the CEO's Silver Award from the
Wall Street Transcript. In 1997 and 1999, Bowater was named one of the
world's 100 Best-Managed Companies by IndustryWeek magazine. In 1999,
the company was named Company of the Year by PIMA's North American
Papermaker magazine. Mr. Nemirow holds a degree with honors from Harvard
College and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law
