LAWRENCE C. DAY is President and Chief Executive Officer of TBC
Corporation, Memphis, Tennessee. Mr. Day joined the company in April
1998 as Executive Vice President and Chief operating Officer and was
elected President and Director in October 1998. He became CEO on October
1, 1999. A native of South Africa, Mr. Day began his career in 1966 when
he joined The Standard Bank of South Africa as a Foreign Exchange
Specialist. He made a career change in 1970 and entered the automotive
field as a Branch Manager with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in
Johannesburg, and then later expanded into international sales. From
Goodyear, Mr. Day made the transition to another tire manufacturer,
Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, this time in the United States. From
September 1976 to January 1989, Mr. Day held various management
positions for Firestone. Starting in Boston, this series of assignments
took Mr. Day completely across the country, winding up in Southern
California. By the end of his Firestone tenure, Mr. Day was responsible
for retail operations and was involved in developing new retail formats.
He then joined Montgomery Ward's Auto Express Division as Field
Director, then served as Vice President of that division until June
1993. In 1993, Mr. Day joined Monro Muffler Brake, Inc. of Rochester,
new York as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and was
also elected to the Board of Directors. He was elected President and
Chief Executive Officer in April 1995. During his tenure at Monro, Mr.
Day embarked upon an aggressive expansion campaign that resulted in the
doubling of the number of retail outlets operated by the company. At the
same time he introduced numerous new services to offset declining
exhaust system revenues resulting from the introduction of stainless
steel exhaust systems. Mr. Day also orchestrated the company's move into
its new office and distribution center in Rochester. He also serves on
the Board of Directors at Lund International. Mr. Day is married with
