Sandra Nusinoff Lehrman – Genzyme Transgenics (gztc)

SANDRA NUSINOFF LEHRMAN is President and CEO at Genzyme Transgenics Corporation. The company, through its molecular biology and core transgenic technology, enables the development and production of monoclonal antibodies and recombinant therapeutic proteins in the milk of transgenic animals. Primedica Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary, provides preclinical and other testing services to pharmaceutical, biotechnology and health care companies. Dr. Lehrman was a founder of Triangle Pharmaceuticals in Durham, North Carolina where she served as Vice president of Drug Development. During her ten-year tenure as an executive at Burroughs Wellcome, Dr. Nusinoff Lehrman held several posts, including that of Vice President, Infectious Diseases, Immunology and Biotechnology; International Director of Biotechnology for Wellcome PLC; and Vice President and General Manager of BW Manufacturing, Inc. Dr. Lehrman holds numerous patents as a recognized leader in the area of anti-viral therapeutics and is an inventor of the use of Retrovir (AZT) for the prophylaxis and treatment of retroviral infections. She is currently a member of the AIDS Research Advisory Committee, National Institute of Arthritis and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). She also serves as a member of the Brown University Corporation Committee on Biomedical Affairs and as a director of the Rhode Island Center for Cellular Medicine. Dr. Lehrman obtained her Doctor of Medicine degree from Brown University. She served her internship and residency in Pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital, and was a post-doctoral fellow and faculty member in pediatric Infectious Diseases at Duke University Medical Center.
