JOSEPH C. HUTTS, Chairman and CEO of PhyCor, received a Bachelor's
degree at Baylor University and an M.B.A. at the University of Chicago.
For ten years, he was on the administrative staff of two large,
university-affiliated teaching hospitals the University of Wisconsin
Hospital and St. Luke's Hospital of Kansas City. He joined Hospital
Affiliates International in 1974; he rose to Group Vice President within
that organization. In 1977, he joined Hospital Corporation of America as
Vice President, Operations, in the newly-formed management contract
division, becoming President of that division in 1978. In 1981, he
became Senior Vice-President Western Operations of HCA. In 1985, HCA
formed a Health Plans Group to enter the financing and delivery of care
through managed care plans and Mr. Hutts was named as President, a post
he held until the merger with a division of the Equitable Life Assurance
Society in 1986. He became Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of
the running joint venture, Equicor. With the formation of PhyCor in
1988, he assumed the responsibilities of President, CEO and Chairman. Profile
