Nelson C. Rising – Catellus Development Corporation (cdx)

A veteran real-estate executive with broad experience in all aspects and phases of development, NELSON C. RISING joined Catellus in September, 1994 as President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Rising's experience spans 25 years in the real estate industry. Prior to joining Catellus, he was a senior partner of Maguire Thomas Partners, one of the largest commercial developers in the nation with projects throughout southern California, Dallas and Philadelphia. He was partner-in-charge of Playa Vista, a 1,087-acre planned community located near Playa del Rey, Calif., and partner-in-charge of Los Angeles' Library Square, a project that includes the West's tallest office building, the 73-story First Interstate World Center, and the 54-story Gas Company Tower. The Library Square project provided over $100 million for the renovation of Los Angeles' historic Central Library. Active in civic and community affairs, Mr. Rising has chaired the Central City Association, an organization that has represented business interests in downtown Los Angeles for over 70 years; chaired the Blue Ribbon Task Force, formed to evaluate the business practices of the Metropolitan Water District; and co-chaired Mayor Riordan's Development Reform Commission. Mr. Rising recently received the 1996 Los Angeles Heritage Award from Project Restore in Los Angeles. He was recently appointed director of the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco for a three-year term beginning in January, 1998. He serves as Chair of the National Realty Committee's Environmental Policy Advisory Committee. Mr. Rising graduated with honors from UCLA with a degree in Economics and graduated with honors from the UCLA School of Law in 1967, where he served as managing editor of the UCLA Law Review.
