Thomas Davison – Sontra Medical Corporation (sont)

THOMAS W. DAVISON is President and Chief Executive Officer of Sontra Medical Corporation. Since joining Sontra in May 2002, Dr. Davison has led the company's transition from an early stage R&D company to a product development company that is preparing to launch its first product. Prior to joining Sontra, Dr. Davison was the Chief Executive Officer of Endius, Inc., which he founded in 1997. At Endius, Dr. Davison invented and commercialized the first endoscopic spine fusion technology and surgical procedure. Developments at Endius are changing the way spine surgeons approach spinal fusion. Prior to Endius, Dr. Davison was the co-Founder and President of UltraCision, the technology leader in ultrasonic surgery. While at UltraCision, he led a team of engineers who developed the Harmonic Scalpel, including two engineers who are currently at Sontra. Dr. Davison holds 15 patents including four on ultrasonic surgical technologies that led to the development of the Harmonic Scalpel. UltraCision and the Harmonic Scalpel were sold to Ethicon Endosurgery, a Johnson & Johnson company, in late 1995. Today, the UltraCision Harmonic Scalpel is a gold standard in laparoscopic surgery and Harmonic Scalpel sales exceed $300 million worldwide. Dr. Davison also has held various executive management and technical positions within the medical technology industry during his 32-year career.
