John Anthony Macdonald – Bell Canada (bce)

JOHN ANTHONY MACDONALD joined Bell Canada in November 1994 as Chief Technology and Network Officer. In May 1997 he was appointed Chief Operating Officer. In February 1998, he was promoted to his present position as President and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining Bell Canada, Mr. MacDonald was President and chief Executive Officer of The New Brunswick Telephone Company. Limited, a post he had held since March of that year. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia in 1953, he is a graduate of Dalhousie University and the Technical University of Nova Scotia, obtaining a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the latter in 1977. Mr. MacDonald began his career in 1977 with NBTel in the network design section of the company's engineering department. He joined the planning department as Market Planning Manager in 1982 and was appointed Corporate Planning Manager in 1985. Mr. MacDonald serves on the Board of Directors of Tele-Direct (Publications) Inc., CANARIE Inc., the CGI Group Inc. Bruncor Inc., BCE Capital Inc., and is Chairman of MediaLinx. He is also a member of the Technology Partnership of Canada and of the Advisory Council of Health Information.
