Roderick Bryden – World Heart Corporation (whrt)

RODERICK M. World Heart Corporation, and has held this position since January 2000. Mr. Bryden was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of World Heart Corporation from April 1996 to December 1999. He has been a member of the Board of Directors since the inception of the company in 1996. Mr. Bryden founded World Heart Corporation in 1996, along with the Ottawa Heart Institute and Dr. Tofy Mussivand. From 1993 until 2003, Mr. Bryden was the owner of the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club of the National Hockey League, as well as the owner of the Corel Centre, the team's home ice facility. From 1991 until present, Mr. Bryden served as Chairman of SC Stormont Corporation, a financial management services company, of which he was also the principal owner and one of three founders. Over the past several years, SC Stormont Corporation has served as a corporate vehicle for managing the ownership of Mr. Bryden's corporate affairs and does not currently engage in active business. In 1974, Mr. Bryden founded Systemhouse Ltd. and was President or Chairman of Systemhouse until June 1991. During this period, Systemhouse grew to become Canada's leading computer integration company with over 3,000 employees. In 1974, Mr. Bryden founded Paperboard Industries Corporation (PIC) and was Chairman of PIC until 1991, during which period PIC grew to become Canada's largest manufacturer of paper from recycled fiber, and the largest manufacturer of paperbox packaging, with revenues of $700 million and 4,000 employees. He received his education from Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick; the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton; and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. From 1967 to 1969, Mr. Bryden was Professor of Law at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. In 1969, Mr. Bryden moved to Ottawa and held various positions with the government of Canada, including Assistant Deputy Minister of Regional Economic Expansion, prior to the commencement of his independent business endeavors at the end of 1973.
