THOMAS S. JOHNSON has been Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of
GreenPoint Financial Corp. since 1993. Prior to joining GreenPoint, he
was President and Director of Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co., New York,
from 1989 to 1991. He was President and a Director of Chemical Bank, New
York, from 1969 to 1989. Mr. Johnson was Special Assistant to the
Comptroller at the U.S. Department of Defense, Washington DC, from 1966
to 1969 and an Instructor in the Master of Business Management Program
at Ateneo de Manila University, Manila, from 1964 to 1966. Mr. Johnson
has an MBA from Harvard Business School and an AB in Economics from
