MARK C. ROHR was elected president and chief executive officer of
Albemarle Corporation, effective October 1, 2002. Previously, he had
served as president and chief operating officer from January 1, 2000.
Mr. Rohr joined Albemarle in April 1999, and was elected executive vice
president, operations, with responsibility for Albemarle's Polymer and
Fine Chemical global business units, global sales, marketing and
information resources. In March 2001, he was elected to Albemarle's
board of directors. Prior to joining Albemarle, Mr. Rohr was senior vice
president for the Specialty Chemicals group of Occidental Chemical
Corporation in Dallas, Texas, responsible for a diverse portfolio of
businesses. He has over 20 years of experience in the chemical industry,
including assignments at Cain Chemical, Corpus Christi Petrochemical
Company and Dow Chemical, with international experience in Asia, Latin
America and Europe. A native of Kentucky, Mr. Rohr received BS degrees
in chemistry and chemical engineering from Mississippi State University
in 1975 and 1977, respectively. He also completed the Executive MBA
Program at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1989. He
formerly served on the board of directors and executive committee of the
Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association, and currently
serves on several American Chemistry Council board committees including
the Responsible Care' Committee, Reputation and Policy Committee, and
Political Activities Committee. Mr. Rohr has his office in Baton Rouge,
