J. LARRY NICHOLS co-founded Devon Energy Corporation in 1971. He was
elected President in 1976, Chief Executive Officer in 1980 and Chairman
of the Board in 2000. He currently serves as Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer. Prior to joining Devon, Mr. Nichols served as Special
Assistant to Assistant Attorney General William Rehnquist in the U.S.
Department of Justice in Washington, DC. He served as Law Clerk to Chief
Justice Earl Warren and Justice Tom Clark of the U.S. Supreme Court from
1967 to 1968. Active on the national level, Mr. Nichols serves as Vice
President of the Independent Petroleum Association of America. He is
regional Chairman for the Business Industry Political Action Committee
and a Director of both the Domestic Petroleum Council and the Natural
Gas Supply Association. He serves as a Director for the National
Association of Manufacturers, National Petroleum Council and the
Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association. He also serves on the Board
of Governors of the American Stock Exchange and on the Board of
Directors of Smedvig ASA and Baker Hughes Incorporated. Mr. Nichols
graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor's degree in Geology
and completed his Juris Doctorate at the University of Michigan. Profile
