MICHAEL R. KNAPP is Chief Executive Officer of Caliper
Technologies Corp. Dr. Knapp, who co-founded the company in 1995,
has played an integral role in the creation and development of
the company. As the Vice President of Corporate Development, he
configured the company's technology access program for high-
throughput drug screening and drove the creation of partnerships
with a number of important pharmaceutical and biotechnology
companies. He also originated the Applications Developer Program
(ADP) that enables other companies, in many different fields, to
apply Caliper's microfluidic technology to their unique
analytical needs. In addition, Dr. Knapp co-founded Amphora
Discovery Corp., a chemical genomics company, initially as an
internally funded program that was later spun out of Caliper with
independent funding and management. Before starting Caliper, he
served as President and Scientific Director at Molecular Tool,
Inc., a genetics technology company that he co-founded in 1988.
Previously, Dr. Knapp was on the staff of the Center for
Neurobiology and Behavior at Columbia University and was
Scientific Director of Genetica SARL, an affiliate of Rhone
Poulenc SA in Paris, France. Dr. Knapp holds a BS in Biology from
Trinity College (Hartford) and a PhD in Medical Microbiology from
