WILLIAM A. COOPER has been Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive
Officer of TCF Financial Corporation since March 1, 1985. Before
joining TCF, Mr. Cooper served as President and Chief Operating Officer
of American Savings & Loan in Miami, Florida, for one year. From 1978 to
1984, Mr. Cooper was Executive Vice President and then President of
Huntington Bank, Columbus, Ohio. Prior to that he served as Senior Vice
President and Controller at Michigan National Corporation. Mr. Cooper
serves on the Boards of Directors of Friends of Ascension, Providence
Academy and Minnesota Business Partnership, where he serves as a member
on their Executive Committee. A graduate of Wayne State University,
Detroit, Mr. Cooper holds a bachelor's degree in Accounting with majors
in Economics and Finance. He is a Certified Public Accountant, and was a
Senior Auditor for Touche, Ross & Co., Detroit, for four years. Profile
